A Statement :

The National Trend is Welcoming the US Sanctions on the Rapid Support Forces Militia and Its Leader

The National Trend commends the decision taken by the US administration to impose sanctions on the leader of the Rapid Support Forces militia and a number of companies owned by him and cooperating with him, and the individuals fighting in the ranks of his militias, due to the commission of war crimes and crimes violating human rights against the Sudanese people, and urges it to impose harsher international sanctions to limit their movements behind these sanctions and circumventing them.

These expected sanctions come as a positive development for the efforts of the international community in confronting these criminal militias, and confirm that the world is watching their crimes and cannot remain silent about them, as they also contribute significantly to lifting the diplomatic cover from them and paralyzing their financial and military capabilities, which they use to commit more crimes against innocent civilians and destroy the country’s infrastructure.

Politically, these sanctions cut off the road for anyone who might be tempted to cooperate with these militias from international governmental or local political entities, whether through financial support, military backing, or planning to impose a fait accompli through attempts to declare a government aimed at separating part of the country and committing more crimes without accountability.

The National Trend calls on Sudanese civil society and its friends among the free people of the world to intensify efforts to pressure the international community to classify the Janjaweed militia (Rapid Support Forces) as a terrorist organization, which will contribute to its international isolation and holding it accountable for its crimes.

We in the National Trend reaffirm our firm position on the need to end the war in Sudan, and the transition to a state of democratic institutions, and we also affirm the importance of adhering to the decisions of the Jeddah platform, which guarantees the continued flow of humanitarian aid and ensures a speedy end to this war.

We also affirm our commitment to working towards achieving a comprehensive and broad political process that leads to a national consensus on the issues of national foundation and the measures of democratic transition.
We call on all political and societal forces to assume their historical responsibilities and work together to achieve sustainable peace, stability, and justice in our country.
